Alayna is an innovative playwright and active member of the Twin Cities Playwright Cabal, known for her avant-garde approach to storytelling. Her work experiments with narrative form, bending and deconstructing traditional structures to create provocative theatrical experiences.
Her plays explore themes such as identity, mental health, women’s relationships, privilege, and power dynamics. Alayna’s work has been staged at venues including Theater Mu (MN), National Black Theatre (NY), Phoenix Theater (MN), Market Garden Theatre (MN), Renaissance Theaterworks (WI), Playwrights’ Center (MN), MadLab Theater (OH), Athena Project (CO), Lincoln Theater (OH), Pythian Theater (OH), and Haybarn Theater (VT).
Notable works include ALL OF THE EVERYTHING, featured at the 2019 Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Short Play Festival, and THE RETELLING, presented at the Twin Cities’ Horrorfest in 2020. She has created commissioned works such as AN EVENING WITH ELLA AND HAROLD for Lakeshore Players Theatre, YOU KNOW I’D NEVER, EVEN IF I DID, showcased at Daleko Arts’ inaugural Cesta Festival, and OHIO VILLAGE VIRTUAL QUEST for the Ohio Historical Society.
Most recently, she contributed to HIDDEN HERALD, a site-specific audio play series with Wonderlust Theater, and is developing a commissioned holiday musical set on the 8th floor display of Dayton’s department store for History Theater. She has also been a guest at the William Inge Center for the Arts Festival.
Outside the theater, Alayna is an avid basketball fan, especially of the NBA. She holds a BA in Theater from Otterbein University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College, a foundation that informs her distinctive voice at the intersection of theater and literature.
